Tola Wewe

Wewes artworks are widely exalted for their originality, simplicity, surface texture and mastery of colours, establishing him as one of the most talented minds from the African continent. Wewe credits his style and inspiration to the Ona symbols of his native Yoruba culture. He describes himself as more of a witness than an author as he communicates with the spirits of his ancestors and drawing out these invisible spirits who create his artworks. He is the vehicle, and they are the drivers. We go on these strange journeys to the most remote ends of imaginative experience. His work is thus credited to his experiences with his own native African culture and his experiences with his training as an international artist on the Western stage.
